Hexaware unveils GCC 2.0 after SMC Squared acquisition for AI boost

Fri, 18th Jul 2025

Hexaware has acquired SMC Squared to advance its strategy for next-generation Global Capability Centres (GCCs).

The transaction enables Hexaware to introduce a new GCC 2.0 service line, which will merge SMC Squared's experience in building and operating GCCs with Hexaware's platform-led IT delivery approach. This new service line is expected to provide enterprises with a GCC offering that integrates artificial intelligence and digital solutions, aiming to deliver scalable and strategic value.

GCC 2.0 service launch

Hexaware's new GCC 2.0 line is being positioned as a driver of long-term client value by taking advantage of SMC Squared's build-operate-transfer model as well as Hexaware's digital platforms. The GCC 2.0 service will offer a proposition that extends beyond typical cost savings, incorporating AI and advanced analytics to enhance the strategic impact of client GCCs.

SMC Squared's operational models, including managed services, build-optimize-transfer, and hybrid solutions, focus on lowering operating costs while developing GCC teams that operate as extensions of their clients' business objectives. The company delivers services across key functions such as human resources, infrastructure, employee well-being, finance, and technology consulting.

The integration of SMC Squared's model with Hexaware is expected to provide an institutionally mature and reliable execution framework. The combined capabilities will support large-scale clients through unified, high-value GCC operations, with growth and synergy potential expected across Hexaware's portfolio.

Market context

The global market for GCCs is experiencing significant expansion. The sector in India alone is projected to surpass USD $100 billion by 2030, reflecting growing enterprise demand for advanced, outcome-based service models that rely on partners capable of delivering stable, scalable operations.

"Our clients are increasingly looking for GCC partners who bring more than staffing or infrastructure," said Amrinder Singh, President & Head – EMEA & APAC Operations, Hexaware. "With SMC Squared, we gain proven governance, delivery credibility, and scale in areas where execution strength is non-negotiable. This acquisition enables us to deliver long-term value to enterprises, leveraging our human and digital agent-driven model and proprietary IT delivery platforms."

This market trend is influencing companies toward the adoption of GCC 2.0 models, which emphasise the integration of artificial intelligence to reshape GCCs from cost-saving units to contributors of strategic value.

Expansion of capabilities

"On behalf of the SMC Squared team, I'm thrilled to share that we're now part of Hexaware," said Patricia Connolly, CEO, SMC Squared. "For over a decade, we've helped shape the GCC industry, and this acquisition expands what we can deliver globally with strengthened capabilities across AI, analytics, modernization, cloud transformation, and enterprise platforms while growing our delivery footprint with new centers in Latin America and increasing client activity in the UK and Europe."

SMC Squared has delivered GCC services to a range of international brands from different sectors including commerce, manufacturing, financial services, healthcare, and consumer-facing companies. Among their clients is Papa John's International, which operates across multiple global markets, including India.

"Partnering with SMC to build our dedicated GCC team has been a transformative experience. Our GCC team is fully integrated, aligned with our strategic vision, and focused on delivering real business value," said Michael Wyant, Vice President of Corporate Systems & Enterprise Data, Papa Johns. "From modernizing our ERP systems to enhancing our Workday integrations and building a robust data and analytics foundation, SMC has consistently delivered. We look forward to working together, now with Hexaware, to accelerate modernization. Congratulations SMC Squared and Hexaware. We're excited for what lies ahead in our GCC partnership."

Following the acquisition, the combined entity is now offering a comprehensive range of GCC services. These span advisory, setup, operations, and optimisation, supported by a broad base of skilled talent, consistent delivery practices, and established operational rigor.

GCC 2.0 is described as the evolution of traditional global capability centres, with a focus on transforming these offshore or nearshore hubs into strategic, value-generating parts of multinational businesses through the adoption of artificial intelligence and enhanced digital technologies.
